İDSO plays Beethoven's First Symphony under the baton of Can Okan

İDSO plays Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, Do Majör, Op. 21 under the baton of Can Okan.

ABOUT


In the first part of the concert, İstanbul State Symphony Orchestra accompanies oboe group member Damla Tuncer for Alessandro Marcello’s Oboe Concerto, and trumpet group member Timuçin Abacı for Johann Baptist Georg Neruda’s Trumpet Concerto. While two soloist play together Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Oboes for the encore, maestro Can Okan accompanies them with the harpsichord. The audience gives big hand to these three works of the most renowned representatives of the Late Baroque epoque.

In the second part, the orchestra gracefully plays Ludwing van Beethoven's rarely played, bare, chamber music-like first symphony.

ABOUT WORK


Ludwig van Beethoven

Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21

Beethoven started to work intensively on this symphony in 1799. The composer completed the work next year, in the beginning of a new century. He was 29 years old by then.

The symphony is dedicated to Baron Gottfried Van Swieten, an early patron of the composer. The premiere was warmly welcomed as an original masterpiece.
